ABOUT THE CENTRE

Entrepreneurship is a catalyst for economic development and job creation. It accelerates industrial development of a country and generates employment opportunities resulting in overall improvement of the standard of living of the people. The youth have many ideas and dreams but are unable to convert them into reality. There is a need to provide education and training at the hands of successful investors and entrepreneurs in order to develop them into successful entrepreneurs. Being an educational institution committed to nation-building, MDIM has started a Centre for Entrepreneurship Development with the objective of helping people discover and use entrepreneurship to become self-reliant. It is a non-profit student organization, dedicated to the cause of promoting entrepreneurship among students. It envisions a society of self-motivated individuals with constructive and intense entrepreneurial drive.

Centre for Entrepreneurship and Start-ups aim at invoking a spirit of entrepreneurship among the new generation, a stepping stone towards the better future of our Nation and the growing economy. We believe in providing a platform to guide the creative minds through effective interaction between the students and successful entrepreneurs, investors, venture capitalists etc. thus helping their ideas transform into entrepreneurial ventures.

SCOPE OF THE WORK OF THE CENTRE

  • To train the youth to use their skills to turn opportunities into reality
  • To increase the awareness of entrepreneurship as a career option.
  • To provide inputs for entrepreneurship awareness, business creation and small business development.
  • To promote entrepreneurship and educate start-ups in different business related aspects.
  • To train the youth to develop entrepreneurial skills to take up self-employment.

The Centre for Entrepreneurship is the creative hub that nurtures entrepreneurial endeavours. The Centre is interested in assisting students in every stage of the lifecycle of an enterprise– right from inspiration, ideation and initiation, to incubation for both mainstream innovations as well as ventures around social innovation and sustainability.

Centre for Entrepreneurship and Startups presents

AURORA (Marathon and Amusement Gala) (March 1st, 2024): Hult Organising Committee organized a marathon at 6:30 AM. The event witnessed an enthusiastic turnout, not only from the spirited students of MDIM but also from the young students of neighbouring schools and even our unsung heroes—the cleantech, security, and mess staff. The winners were awarded with medals. A lively carnival took over the campus as the evening arrived. The football ground lit up with colourful lights, hosting fun activities like body zorbing and virtual reality games. Students collided with oversized balloons and explored virtual worlds. The laser tag game stole the show, with teams battling it out while Domino’s served delicious treats, adding to the excitement. As the day came to an end, the carnival reached its pinnacle with an enthusiastic dance session under the starlit sky. The junior and senior batches united in a joyous celebration, dancing their hearts out to the loud beats of music. Hult Prize Organising Committee along with E-cell member’s marathons and carnival proved to be a day-long escape, providing a collective breather from the pressures of the outside world and creating memories.

Hult Prize (January 24th, 2024): The E-Cell of MDI-M and the HULT Organizing Committee joined forces to present the HULT Prize, a thrilling international event. We were honored to host this business idea pitching competition at our institute, attracting participation from over 15 teams. The event served as a platform to test the potential of our talented students. It was a special privilege to have a diverse audience for the on-campus round of the HULT Prize, where everyone actively engaged in idea curation and pitching to industry experts. The event witnessed a significant turnout, and participants had the opportunity to interact with some of the finest mentors.

YOU-VALUATE(January 12, 2024) – The entrepreneurship cell of MDIM, Vyavsay, hosted the YOUvaluate Competition aiming to offer students hands-on learning in finance, entrepreneurship, and market analysis. Teams that aced the quiz round showcased their creativity in presenting their business ideas. Teams had to envision the future potential of their ventures without relying on past sales data, facing tough questions in a professional setting from respected panelists—a simulation of real-world investor pitches. This experience provided valuable insights into the realities of entrepreneurship.

Entrepreneurship is a symphony of innovation, dedication, and the courage to redefine what is possible in the business landscape.‘Vyavsay’, the Entrepreneurship Cell of MDI Murshidabad, presented a dynamic ‘Online Entrepreneurship Workshop featuring Hitesh Sharma, the visionary founder of Sahayata Global Assistance. Hitesh Sharma, recognized as a 30 under 30 Entrepreneur in both the years 2022 and 2023, holds the title of the youngest Auto Tech CEO. His influence extends beyond the business realm, actively mentoring students of renowned institutions and investing in prodigious startups. Having led Roadside Assistance in India and Asia, his business has expanded globally use the following photo with this topicwith ‘Readily Mobility Solutions’.

At MDI Murshidabad, we the members of Vyavsay, Entrepreneurship-Cell, orchestrated an exciting selling competition called “Titans of Trade.” It turned into a vibrant commerce battlefield, where teams gathered, armed with creativity and charm, to conquer challenges. Amidst the competition’s intensity, the arena buzzed with strategies as participants navigated the twists of market dynamics. The event went beyond just sales; it became a valuable learning experience. Each pitch and negotiation added to the canvas of experience. The Titans emerged not only as sellers but also as skilled persuaders, weaving value into compelling stories. In our memories, “Titans of Trade” remains a bright thread, reminding us that in the business world, every move and relationship counts. Every challenge becomes a stepping stone to greatness.

BizTank which was a hybrid-mode startup idea pitching competition with a prize pool of Rs. 15k and participants from all over India was conducted to answer this question.

BizTank, a business pitch competition – comes under the umbrella of ANIVESH ‘23 – which also included BizTalk.

The guest for BizTank were – Sundeep Tibrewal (Founder & CEO -Glad2shopTechnology Pvt Ltd), Vinay Pagaria (Co Founder & CTO -Stockedge), Jyotsana S (MD- IWEBRO).

BizTalk – comes under the umbrella of ANIVESH ‘23 – which also includeed BizTank, a business pitch competition. BizTalk hosted a conversation between some well-known entrepreneurs, from the town of Murshidabad. The guests shared their entrepreneurial challenges, and what kind of strategies they adopted to create a successful business, specifically in a small city like Murshidabad.

The guests of BizTalk were – Ram Krishna Singh (Entrepreneur), Asim (Entrepreneur), Rubel Hossain (Entrepreneur) & Aktarul SK (Entrepreneur). The moderator for the session was Sourav Rauniyar (Assistant Professor, Marketing – MDIM).

Introduction of Vyavsay

In 2018, MDIM started the Centre for Entrepreneurship, VYAVSAY with the objective of helping people discover and use entrepreneurship to become self-reliant. Its mission is to serve as a catalyst for entrepreneurship by supporting and incubating entrepreneurial ideas. The scope ranges from training & upskilling youth to turning opportunities into reality, to increasing the awareness of entrepreneurship as a career option, where they take to uplift society by generating employment. Its activities include conducting Webinars, Workshops, Competitions (Both Intra and Inter College), E-Summit, Panel Discussions, Live Project/internship opportunities in Start-ups, capturing journeys of entrepreneurs, Conferences, etc. It works with the mindset to Inspire budding entrepreneurs, who will take Initiatives to cause innovations and disruptions in the society.

MDI-M Bazaar

Vyavsay launched of MDI-M Bazaar, an initiative, which was started with the simple idea of helping students with their needs by saving their time and cost.

As the name of MDI suggests, Management Development Institute, idea is to work towards the development of small-scale entrepreneurs around us and become their voice in the coming time.

Titans of Trade

Vyavsay conducted exclusive offline trading event, Titans of Trades. With the aim of invoking the spirit of entrepreneurship in the new age, T.O.T is to initiate core skills of businesses including buying, selling, and providing. It works with the mindset of inspiring, Initiating, and Innovating, and believes in providing a platform to guide creative minds through effective interactions between the students and their surroundings.

Anivesh’22

Anivesh is E-Cell MDI-M’s annual flagship event that Connects and Inspires some of the best talents in the country to make a dent in the entrepreneurship world. The summit’s goal is to bring all stakeholders in the entrepreneurial ecosystem together. The majority of the individuals that attend the event include professionals, entrepreneurs, and college students.

Every Year hundreds of students, from all across the country participate in activities like speaker sessions, Panel Discussions, National level B plan competition, and other such activities that are scheduled throughout the two-day event.

Vyavsay was honored to have Aditya Baran Mallik and Dr. Neeraj Singhal as the Sharks of the Biz-Tank, Shark Tank of MDI-M.

BIZ-TANK

Biz-Tank, Shark Tank of MDI-M, is part of the Anivesh series is our B-plan pitch competition to encourage prospective entrepreneurs from different backgrounds across the nation to pitch their business concepts. It tests the business acumen of participants, along with their organizational capabilities by providing validation opportunities for new or independent proposed ventures in the start-up world. It was conducted on Dare2Compete platform.

The purpose was to Inspire budding entrepreneurs, who can take Initiatives to cause Innovations and disruptions in the society.

Quantum Leap

Vyavsay, the E-Cell of MDI Murshidabad in collaboration with Analytica, the Analytics Club of MDI Murshidabad organized a National Level Business Simulation game competition on the Dare2Compete platform. The event consisted of 3 rounds: a quiz-based eliminatory round, semi-finals, and finals. The event was received with high enthusiasm as MBA Students from across the country participated in this event to showcase their business acumen and apply the theoretical knowledge learned in class in a practical scenario. Winners were awarded cash prizes and internship opportunities from our sponsors.

Youpreneur (Webinar talks series of E-Cell)

To ignite the entrepreneurial spirit in the students of MDI Murshidabad, Vyavsay also organizes interactive webinars with Industry stalwarts. The event invites eminent start-up founders and Venture capitalists as speakers and provides the students an opportunity to interact with them and learn more about the fascinating world of start-ups.

This year Vyavsay had the honor of inviting Mr.Manpreet Singh Chhabra (Director at Gupshup) and Mr. Vinay Maheshwari (CEO of Sakshi Media Group) as the speakers of the Youpreneur.

Internships & Live Projects

Vyavsay also assists students of MDI Murshidabad in obtaining Live projects and summer internships in MBA, which is of utmost importance. This year, students had the opportunity to intern with five companies, Hapih Host, HarbourX, SG Auto, Closho and open secrets, and gain real-world corporate experience.

Hapih Host: a web hosting start-up, provides end-to-end solutions including marketing, web designing, streaming services, cloud solutions, IPTV, etc.

HarbourX, a recruitment firm, Engineering interns are hired from India and outsourced to US based clients.

SG Auto: SG Auto Assist (formerly known as Sahayata Global Assistance) One of India’s Top 3 & Asia’s Top 10 Roadside Assistance Company. Founded by Mr. Hitesh Sharma in 2016 is the only Bootstrapped company in our domain, despite that we are present in 6 countries now namely India. Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Australia & New Zealand.

Closho Footwear: Closho footwear is a start-up set up in Delhi with a vision to deliver trendy footwear at affordable rates. They are present on all renowned e-commerce platforms (Flipkart, Amazon, Myntra, Ajio, etc.) and look forward to expanding our presence in the market in the coming days.

Open Secrets: Open Secret was born with the purpose of unjunk India’s snack time, with mothers at the forefront of the mission. Built by a team of HBS, IIM, and IIT alumni, they are a ~3-year-old series-B-funded startup. It has grown 10x in the last 12 months, expanded into 10+ categories, become best-sellers on Amazon and other marketplaces, is present in 5000+ stores in India and is on track to become India’s leading un-junked snacking destination through a partnership with 100+ brands.

Axis Bank Gender Sensitivity workshop

Vyavsay, in collaboration with Axis Bank presented “Women in Motion” as an online workshop session to help young minds understand the importance of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. The agenda of the meeting was to help students understand the importance and significance of all three terms across the workplaces. We were honored to have Mr. Harish Iyer and Ms. Tina Thomas for enlightening us on such a sensitive issue.

EDII Association (February 8th’22)

MDI Murshidabad (MDI-M) and Vyavsay signed an MOU with the Entrepreneurship Development Institute of India, Ahmedabad (EDII), on February 8th, 2022. The objective of this MoU was to provide knowledge and support to the students and develop an ecosystem to support budding start-ups.

This MOU was signed to promote the culture of entrepreneurship among the youth, and this also covers entrepreneurship education, start-up and incubation support, exchange of faculty members, promotion of entrepreneurship, conduction of joint Management Development Programs, Executive Education Programs, organizing joint Research Programs, organizing Joint Conferences, etc.

V- Illuminati (Panel Discussion series of E-Cell)

Vyavsay launched its new V-Illuminati event, which was the first of its type. V-Illuminati is an interactive panel discussion in which MDI Murshidabad alumni who have embarked on an entrepreneurial adventure are invited to participate as panelists. The purpose of the event is to bring attention to a variety of subjects linked to the start-up industry and to provide students with appropriate information and experience. Students are encouraged to communicate with the panelists in order to clear up any misconceptions or doubts they may have.

In its first series, it had the opportunity to host Mr KUSHAL MUNDRA and Mr Sonik Sourabh, alumni & Entrepreneurs of MDI-M.

Entrepreneurship Talk on “Elevating StartUps Zero to One”

A five-day MDP was organized by the Centre for Entrepreneurship and Start-ups in association with MSME for management students. The Management Development Program was conducted in MDI Murshidabad for a Batch of students by MSME- Development Institute organized by the Centre for Entrepreneurship and Startups – MDI Murshidabad from 4rd to 8th Nov 2019. This program was conducted to provide students viewpoint of starting a small business and what sort of support is available to MSME along how to procure it. Even if one aims for large businesses and wants to be an entrepreneur, one has to start with a small prototype or basic functional model of business.

The MDP was on Marketing Management. Sessions on Sales Promotion Techniques and Marketing Planning was taken up by Shri Biswarup Chatterjee in which students learnt how to approach the market through some unconventional ways which are way more feasible and effective. Sessions were held to know all schemes and facilities by government, Ministry of MSME and institutions for entrepreneurs along with instructions to avail them, by MSME-DI. Marketing Management sessions by Dr. Subhajit Bhattacharya showed basic marketing tools for MSME along with Marketing Forecasting, Planning and Rural Marketing. Sessions for motivation, SWOT analysis and 5P’s of marketing, showed the students how to expand the business to an international level through the way of exports by Shri Chandra Shekhar Mukherjee. The last session was an eye-opener in which students came to know how much data we can consider in decisions and how much we can spread our business through digital marketing by Shri Kaushik Bhattacharya.

It was a beautiful journey of five days which lead students to years of exposure from respected faculty. This was a mind-changing program for many students as they had brainstorming sessions and discussed relevant marketing concepts in the real-life scenario.

The Centre for Entrepreneurship and Startups of MDI-M organized Anivesh: The E Summit where three champion entrepreneurs, Mr. Deepak Goel (CEO, Digitally Next), Mr. Suneel Hegde (CEO, Mentor Ally) and Mr. Tarandeep Singh (Founder & CEO, Melvano) came together to talk about their entrepreneurial quest and ignite the entrepreneurial spirit among the students. That sets an entrepreneur apart from the rest is his/her passion to traverse the path of unlearning and relearning. Entrepreneurs are the ones who create a holistic ecosystem facilitating advancement and development in the world full of challenges and road-blocks.

Center for Entrepreneurship and Startups MDI Murshidabad Vyavsay MDI Murshidabad welcomed Mr. Kushal Trivedi, CEO, PreBOO. He enlightened the students about his entrepreneurial journey and addressed students on different marketing strategies for a start-up. He motivated students by mentioning “Attitude is Everything” to achieve success. He was also the guest judge for the event ZIRCON 1.3 organised by Center of Entrepreneurship and Start-ups where the students had put up food stalls , massage parlours , delivery services, fun games , photography contests and various innovative ideas. It was indeed a great day for MDIM students.

A two day workshop on Entrepreneurship Development was organised at MDI Murshidabad in collaboration with Dhaka School Of Economics, for PGDED Executive Program students & MSc Econ. students of University of Dhaka on 9th & 10th November, 2018. The program covered the practical aspects of entrepreneurship viz. Agripreneurship, Sustainability & Community Banking Models, Business Models of Entrepreneurship, Financing for SME’s. This was the first of such a program with University Of Dhaka which is scheduled to be a regular event as it was appreciated by all the participants widely.

“Escape the Ordinary”

1.Objective:

The objective of this activity is to give the feel of entrepreneurship to the students by asking them to operate a small business.

2.Event Details:

There will be 2 stages

  • Stage -1: Team of 3 members will participate in a Treasure Hunt organized in the college premises.
  • Stage -2: Each group will be asked to setup a small business for a single day, which will be visited by faculty and students.
3.Scope of the competition:

This will Hone entrepreneur skills and managerial skills of the students as they will be indulged in real time business activities.

1.Objective:

The objective of this event is to motivate the youth towards thinking about entrepreneurial ideas. It aims to initiate and nurture a spirit of entrepreneurial thought process.

2.Event Details:
  • It is a business competition where the selected candidates have to set up their business for a day.
  • A stall would be set up by each team that would be selling innovative products ranging Rs. 30-70.
  • Sale would be made against the entry coupons only.
  • They have to promote and advertise for their business to attract the customer so that more and more people show their interest in their business.
  • The stall with the maximum revenue wins the competition.
3.Scope of the competition:
  • Embellish artistic and innovative skills.
  • Budding the art of Entrepreneurship
  • Blustering team building skills and leadership qualities
