Overview

Future is no longer a straight-line extension of the past. Therefore, there is a strong need to generate new knowledge that contributes to the world’s transformation for a better future in all spheres of human life, including management practice, consulting, and policymaking.

Those who want to become thought leaders in their profession, progress their careers, or develop advanced research abilities should enroll in a business doctoral program. This program provides specific expertise and research experience that are beneficial for people who want to work in academia, consulting, or leadership roles in industry.

Based on these there is a compelling motivation to launch FPM @ MDI Murshidabad.

Following Programme Goals Are Envisaged

The MDIM FPM Programme has the following Program Outcomes:

  • Identifying and addressing socially relevant research questions.
  • Allow the true self to be expressed to generate knowledge.
  • Employ creative thinking to question contemporary practices and theories to develop relevant, boundary less, and high-impacting knowledge.
  • Oversee the generation of knowledge in a systematic way to ensure its relevance and effectiveness.
  • To make knowledge creation joyful for all stakeholders, focus on fostering collaboration, providing opportunities for continuous learning, and encouraging experimentation.

Programme Outcome

The MDIM FPM Programme has the following Program Outcomes:

  • To produce knowledge that has a social impact as well as cultivate social sensitivity.
  • The program intends to Develop a curiosity-filled research mindset among the participants.
  • The program will enable participants to devise appropriate methodologies to explain phenomena objectively and ethically.
  • The program intends to inculcate necessary skillsets to write high impact research papers and case studies.

Eligibility for Admission

A master’s degree in any discipline with at least 60% marks (with first division) or equivalent grade point average recognized by AICTE /AIU with a Bachelor’s degree / equivalent qualification after completing higher secondary schooling (10+2).

  • Five-year integrated Master’s Degree Programme in any discipline with at least 60% marks (with first division) obtained after completing higher secondary schooling (10+2).
  • A minimum of 50% marks in 10th, 12th, and Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent CGPA and Master’s degree with 60% (with first division).
  • For FPM (Non-Residential), the applicant must be at least 30 and have at least 5 years of managerial work experience, preferably at the senior level, as of the last date of application.
  • For FPM (Residential), those appearing for their final examinations in the respective disciplines can also apply. Candidates must complete the course requirement before June 30, 2025, and produce original certificate /mark sheets by September 30, 2025, failing which they may be asked to withdraw from the program.

Admission Procedure & Fee Structure:

Candidates are required to take Standard Tests like CAT/XAT/ GMAT/GRE/ UGC-JRF/GATE. Candidates must apply through Standard Tests like CAT/XAT/GMAT/GRE/ UGCJRF/ GATE, with scores valid as of the last date of application. Without these test scores, candidates must appear in the MDI Murshidabad Research Aptitude Test. (Note: For full-time two-year PGP alumni from MDI, IIMs, XLRI, FMS, & Other Premier B-Schools, standard test scores may be waived off.) The candidate must submit an abstract of about 5000 words on the area of research interest (tentative research proposal) along with his/her application.

Equal weightage will be given to

a) Academic qualifications and work experience
b) Tentative research proposal and its presentation before the Selection Committee
c) Personal Interview
d) Standard Test Score (as mentioned above)

The decision of the Institution Selection Committee regarding admission shall be final. Communication shall be sent only to the selected candidates. The Institution shall not entertain any queries or correspondence in respect of those not selected.

Selection of Guide(s)

Research Guidance

All Guides shall be internal.
Research Guides shall be allotted to the selected candidates after completion of the necessary course work and related formalities. The research Programme and areas of research shall be finalized by respective Guides after discussion with the candidates and will be forwarded to the Director for concurrence.

100% Faculty of MDI Murshidabad is PhD, with good research experience. MDI Murshidabad faculties publish in high quality journals on a regular basis.

* The stream specific Courses and Seminars shall be decided as approved by the Director on the recommendation by the candidate’s guide (s) and the thesis advisory committee. The subject list is provided area wise.

Duration for earning Credit:

All the credits specified above shall be earned within a maximum of three years from the date of admission to the Programme. Extension after the three years shall be approved by the Director for a period of one year with a review of progress every six months. Final approval shall be given by the Director of the Institution.

Credit Course Requirement:

A research scholar shall undergo 5 Courses of the total 15 credits in the first module. During the second module he/ she shall undergo three streams-specific Courses (of 3 credits each) i.e. total of 9 credits and give a 3 credit seminar on general management topic, i.e. total 12 credits in the second module. In the third module, the candidate shall give 3 credits seminar and write a review paper on the literature related to his/ her research topic for publication purpose of 3 credits. Thus a candidate shall earn 15 credits in the first module, 12 credits in the second module and 6 credits in the third module. After completion of module 3 Comprehensive Research Evaluation (CRE) will take place. It will have 3 credits. All together it will add up to 36 credits in all.

Duration of the Programme

Time Limit

A Candidate shall submit his/ her Thesis only after a minimum period of two years after registration. However, the maximum period allowed for the submission of the Thesis is five years from the date of admission to the Programme.

If a candidate fails to submit the Thesis within the prescribed upper time limit due to reasons beyond his/her control, he/she shall apply to the Director for an extension. If the Institution is satisfied with the candidate’s justification, the Director shall permit him/her to re-register to the Programme subject to the payment of re-registration Fee. This re-registration shall, however, be effective only for a period of two years beyond which no extension shall be permitted.

Break or Unauthorized absence from the Programme

Any break or unauthorized absence from the Programme before registration shall lead to the cancellation of admission. Any authorized break or leave of absence shall not be counted for the minimum period of 2 years stipulated for submission of Thesis but shall be counted in the maximum period of 5 years permissible for submission of the Thesis.

Publication Requirements

The scholar should publish two research papers on the area of research in Scopus/ Web of Science/ ABS/ABDC journals before submission of thesis.
